Dec 02, 2012 I’m not sure if Coquette is one I will end up keeping simply because I have SO many brown shades already (and I could easily use another brown I love in its place). MAC eyeshadows used: Vanilla (inner half of lid) Coquette (outer half of lid) Quarry (crease) Vanilla (blend) Shroom (highlight brow bone).
I like to use eye shadows to fill in my brows, I feel it looks very natural and there is just a greater range to choose from to find the perfect match for your brows. The two eye shadows I got for this purpose are Coquette and Brun by MAC. I chose them because they are very neutral and ashy/cool. I don’t like warm colours which have even the slightest bit of red in them for the brows, just doesn’t look flattering in my opinion, unless you are a redhead of course.
Brun is a good match if you have dark to black hair and Coquette for light brown to medium brown hair. Of course it also depends on what colour your brows are, you can make them look lighter or darker using the right eye shadow.
I have used MAC's Coquette eyeshadow to fill in my brows for a long time now but I never considered using it as an eyeshadow....stupid I know right?
Well yesterday I was like you know what that could make a good outer corner colour/crease colour!! And out of that this eye look was born. I'm so glad I branched out and used this as an eyeshadow, it really looks great on my green eyes!!
Mac Coquette and Charcoal Brown + swatches Secondly, I decided I could try using it as a crease colour, like a transition shade, and it works so well for that as well! It’s the perfect eye shadow as you get just enough colour pay off that it’s easy to control because it’s buildable. It’s not a HUGE difference, but noticeable enough for me. I find that doing my brows frames my face. To do my brows, I use MAC 266 Small Angled Brush and MAC Coquette (eye shadow). Side note: I’ve had my MAC 266 for 11 years now – I bought it when I was 19, and it was $19 at the time. MAC Coquette is a neutral-toned, medium-dark taupe with a matte finish. It is a permanent eyeshadow that retails for $17.00 and contains 0.05 oz. Coquette is my ideal brow shade to mimic the shadow of my brows. It makes them look full in the most natural way! At this point, it's a great value for brow powder that will last for ever. Coquette is a workhorse. I have used this on my brows long before there was an array of pomades, pencils, markers, gels, glazes, in fact long before Anastasia hit the mass cosmetic market Coquette.
So I thought I would share it with you all now :)
Just for reference Coquette is a matte brown/khaki shade, if you haven't seen it before there is a swatch at the end of this post.
To create this eye look I first primed my eyes with Urban Decay primer potion. I then added Nyx Jumbo Eyeshadow pencil in Milk to the inner corners and under the brow just to brighten them up a bit. A swipe of MAC's Brule all over the lid was next before I placed Coquette in the outer corner and blended it inwards. Sumptuous Olive was added to the inner corner and lid and the crease was blended out with MAC's Patina eyeshadow. UD's Sin was added to the brow and inner corner as a highlight.
To create the illusion of thicker lashes I added Savvy by DB's Liquid eyeliner in Brown to the upper lash line with a slight wing. A coat of Revlon's Fabulash mascara completed the look.
